WHO REMEMBERS THE "BUG CLUB" - WERE YOU A MEMBER - ONE OF BOGEY'S BOYS
The picture in the gallery above has been sent to me by John Howard who has recently joined the Old Cicestrians and has already supplied me with an abundance of information most importantly supplying not only the name of the owner of the mystery blazer, namely his father, but also various other gems that will be added to the site in due course.
I am sure that Ken Murch would have been delighted, and indeed very proud to know that many of his "Bug Club" proteges have gone on to have distinguished careers in the sciences. I am sure that his personal enthusiasm for the subject and the time he devoted to the club and all its activities was in no small measure responsible for their career choices leading to their successes later in their professional lives.
These are John Howard's recollections of the names and / or careers many of which require clarification and many where the facts are not even known. PLEASE HELP with any new information you may have.
Back row:
extreme left: Dave Cook (pianist - I think)
2nd left: Marcus Frederick Rumpus(eminent Australian Surgeon?)
3rd from right: Martyn Watts (he always looked like that!)
Middle row:
extreme left: John Howard (Supplier of the photo)
4th Left: Ken Hoad (I think - father ran a bike shop in the Hornet)
5th Left: Alan Woolridge?
Front row:
3rd from left: Anthony Walter Lake(Head of Research Beechams?)
6th from left: John Bignell
Extreme right: Geoff Willis?
Finally please see this as the beginning of a long process of collecting and collating the endless material that makes up the history of the school and its former students. We all believe that making this known and available as reference material to current students will hopefully help them to appreciate the tradition of the school and make them feel able to join us in preserving the traditions and success that it has had and will continue to enjoy.
John Richards - with grateful thanks to John Howard.
